Who can vote in Michigan?

To vote in Michigan, you must:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a resident of Michigan
  • Be at least 18 years old by Election Day
  • Be registered to vote
  • Not currently be serving a sentence in jail or prison

You can pre-register before age 18 if you will be eligible by Election Day.

How to register to vote

You can register to vote in Michigan in several ways:

If you are 15 or more days before an election:

If you are within 14 days of an election or on Election Day:

  • You must register in person at your local clerk’s office
  • You must provide proof of residency
