Flexible Dining Options for Students and Employees

Whether you live in the Devier Student Suites, commute to campus, or work at Glen Oaks Community College, our meal plans provide a convenient and affordable way to enjoy meals on campus.

Housing students are required to participate in a meal plan, while commuter students and employees may choose to purchase a plan that fits their schedule and dining needs.

80 Meals Per Semester Plan

$850 per Semester

This option is ideal for students who regularly eat on campus and want a consistent dining schedule throughout the semester.

Plan includes:

  • Approximately 5 meals per week
  • $50 in Flex Dollars

50 Meals Per Semester Plan

$700 per Semester

This plan offers additional flexibility for students who may not be on campus every day but still want convenient dining options.

Plan includes:

  • Approximately 3 meals per week
  • $200 in Flex Dollars

Understanding Your Meal Plan

Your meal plan includes two dining options: Meal Vouchers and Flex Dollars.

Meal Vouchers

Meal vouchers are used to purchase complete meal options at the Viking Café.

A meal includes:

  • Entrée
  • Side
  • Drink
  • Dessert

Meal Equivalency Example

A meal voucher may be redeemed for one item from each category:

  • Made-to-Order Sandwich or Salad
  • Daily Special

Choose a Side

  • Fries
  • Tots

  • Fruit Cup or Whole Fruit

Daily specials also qualify as a meal option.

Meal vouchers cannot be used at Byte Coolers.


Flex Dollars

Flex Dollars are funds included with your meal plan that work like a declining balance account during the semester.

Flex Dollars may be used to purchase food and beverages at approved campus dining locations, including:

  • Viking Café
  • Byte Coolers
  • Campus concessions

Students may choose whether to use a meal voucher or Flex Dollars when making eligible purchases. If you do not have enough Flex Dollars to complete a purchase, the remaining balance may be paid with cash or card.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I change my meal plan?
A: Yes. Students may change their meal plan during the first week of classes by visiting either the Cashier's Office or the Viking Café. All changes must be made by Friday at 4:00 p.m. during the first week of the semester.

Q: Can I add more Flex Dollars?
A: Yes. Additional Flex Dollars may be added to your account at any time during the semester by visiting either the Cashier's Office or the Viking Café.

Q: What if I register after the semester starts?
A: Students who enroll after classes begin may purchase a prorated meal plan based on their enrollment date.

Q: What happens if I withdraw from the semester?
A: Students who withdraw from the semester forfeit their meal plan for that term. Meal plans are non-transferable.

Q: Is a meal plan required for housing students? 
A: Yes. Students living in the Devier Student Suites are required to participate in a meal plan.

Q: Can commuter students purchase a meal plan?
A: Yes. Meal plans are available to all students and may be purchased through the Cashier's Office or the Viking Café during the first week of classes.

Q: Can employees purchase a meal plan?
A: Yes. Employees may also purchase in a meal plan during the first week of classes.

Q: Can I choose whether to use a meal voucher or Flex Dollars?
A: Yes. Students may choose which option to use when making eligible purchases.

Q: Can I buy more than one meal in a day?
A: Yes. There is no daily limit on meal purchases.

Q: What happens if I run out of Flex Dollars?
A: Any remaining balance , at the time of purchase, must be paid using cash or a debit/credit card. Additional Flex Dollars may be added to your account at any time during the semester by visiting either the Cashier's Office or the Viking Café.

Q: Do unused meals roll over?
A: Meal Plans do not carry over between semesters.

Q: How do I know how many meals or Flex Dollars I have left?
A: Remaining balances will appear on your purchase receipts.
